Knowledge
Micro steam is hot, very fine water vapour with a low water content. It dissolves grease, limescale and dirt with heat alone, without any cleaning agent. This page explains how it works, what it can do and what is really proven. Without advertising promises.
Inside the device, ordinary tap water is heated strongly under pressure. This creates a particularly hot, fine steam with a low water content. The drier the steam, the less residual moisture remains on the surface, and the faster it dries. Professional devices like Thermostar and MediCleanTec reach around 180 °C; according to the manufacturer, the water content in the steam is about 5 to 8 percent, compared with up to 40 percent for simple devices.
Important: the exact figures depend on the device. The 5 to 8 percent is a manufacturer's figure, not an independently verified lab value.
Heat acts on microorganisms by destroying their proteins and enzymes. Among others, the US health authority CDC describes this: moist heat kills microorganisms through the irreversible coagulation and denaturation of their proteins. [Source: CDC]
This has also been measured on surfaces. In a study in the American Journal of Infection Control, saturated steam reduced the number of bacteria on frequently used surfaces by over 90 percent. [Source: Sexton 2011]
This is exactly where we stay honest: this is a germ reduction, not disinfection in the legal sense. Micro steam does not make any surface verifiably germ-free, and it does not replace any required disinfection. That is why we never write "disinfected" or "germ-free", but "reduces germs through heat".
Three ways to get a surface clean. The difference is in the detail.
| Hot micro steam | Hardware-store steam cleaner | Chemical cleaning | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it works | Heat and fine, low-water steam | Heat and steam | chemical agents |
| Residual moisture | low, fast drying (manufacturer's figure) | higher, wetter | wet |
| Chemicals needed | no, mostly just water | no | yes |
| Residue on the surface | none, water evaporates | none | chemical film possible |
| germ reduction | through heat (studies: over 90% on surfaces) | through heat, mostly lower | depends on the agent |
| Running costs | Water and electricity | Water and electricity | ongoing purchase of agents, packaging |
| Longevity | built to last decades, repairable | often short-lived | not applicable |
One device, one jet, the right attachment. With it you clean very different surfaces, at home and in the business.
The benefit has been studied especially for mattresses and upholstery. A study in Environmental Health Perspectives showed that steam cleaning reduces the house dust mite allergen in carpet, and does so longer lasting than vacuuming alone, up to eight weeks. [Source: Vojta 2001]
To be honest about it: other studies found no statistically clear advantage for the added benefit of steam alone. The effect depends on the surface and the method.
For businesses we have described the use by sector:
Many cleaning agents contain substances that can irritate the skin and airways. Preservatives like Methylisothiazolinon are considered common contact allergens and were named contact allergen of the year in 2013; they are found, among other places, in cleaners. [Source: DermNet] Anyone who cleans without such agents never brings them into the indoor air and onto the surfaces in the first place.
The environment cleans up too. Surfactants and other ingredients reach the waters via wastewater and can harm aquatic organisms, according to the German Umweltbundesamt. [Source: UBA] Microplastics deliberately added to cleaning and care products have been gradually banned in the EU since 2023. [Source: EU Regulation 2023/2055]
In many applications micro steam needs only water. No agent that goes into the wastewater, no empty plastic bottle.

That is exactly the point: you should not rely on promises, but on the result. That is why we show you micro steam on site, on your own surfaces.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, in many applications plain tap water is enough. The heat dissolves grease, limescale and dirt, no cleaning agent needed.
No. Micro steam reduces germs through heat, this has been measured in studies. We do not promise germ-freedom or disinfection in the legal sense.
It does without the irritants and fragrances found in many cleaning agents. For mattresses, the reduction of mite allergen has been studied. What makes sense for you, we show at the demonstration.
No. In care, medical practices and food businesses the required, listed disinfection remains in place. Micro steam takes over the thorough cleaning and reduces the use of chemicals in everyday work.
Professional devices produce hotter, finer and lower-water steam. The result dries faster and the device is built for continuous operation and decades, not for a few years.
It is not cheap, and it is not meant to be. You buy it once and use it for decades. We discuss the price openly at the free demonstration.
